Actions for the week of June 9
Six months deep in the big muddy, and that fat orange man expects us to just move on. I hope you will join us in moving on to protest his regime!
Editor’s Note:
At a recent protest, a person attending the protest parked in the private lot of Sonoma County EcoClean — and hit another car on departing. We have photos of that person seeing the damage caused and then leaving the scene. So do the police, including the license plate. This looks bad, both for the driver and as a representative of Indivisible Sonoma County. If this was you, please contact the police immediately.
Here is a sampling of this week’s Rallies, Protests, Calls to Make, Meetings to put on your calendar, and Actions you can take to change the direction of our country. Nothing will change unless we change it. More opportunities to get involved happen all the time — and we post them on our calendar.
Also - I’ve linked to What We Are Doing on June 14, a complete information guide to NO KINGS events in Santa Rosa and Sonoma County (with a few nearby).
Make certain you plan to do what you can to protest next Saturday, June 14!
The House passed a bill that cuts the guts out of the safety net and intends to hamstring the courts’ ability to hold the government accountable for breaking the law. If you want to get right to work fighting this reconciliation bill, check out Indivisible National’s Stop the Cuts page for up-to-date information about what you can do today to fight back.
How can we fight back today?
Since the reconciliation bill still needs to pass the Senate -- and then get voted on for a second time in the House -- we need to hold Republicans in both chambers accountable and keep turning the political tides against the bill.
Here are four actions you can take right now:
Email your senators to demand they speak out against this chaos-inducing attack on democracy. We need to push Democrats to speak out LOUDLY about what Republicans are attempting.
Sign up for a phonebank to mobilize people in key states against the Republican reconciliation bill. Phonebank volunteers connect other folks directly to their Republican senators so they can voice their opposition to the dangerous megabill. Phonebanks are open each week in June to volunteers nationwide; all you need is a phone and a computer.
Join a No Kings protest on Saturday, June 14, to rally against Trump’s tyrannical power-grab. We’re gathering millions of Americans in thousands of places to remind the world what democracy looks like. Together, we’ll show the overwhelming resistance towards authoritarianism of all kinds -- including this bid to sideline the courts. You can sign up below to the ones in Sonoma County!
At a recent General Meeting, attendees suggested small neighborhood meetings to build community. And Indivisible Sonoma County put the word out. Several people stepped forward and invited their neighbors over, and these volunteer-initiated groups have resulted in regular meetings.
Indivisible Junior College Neighborhood meets every other week on Wednesdays. The next meeting is Wednesday, June 18. Contact indyjcn@gmail.com for more information.
If you are hosting community-building, action-oriented Indivisible groups in your neighborhood, or you want to, let us know. We will help you get the word out.
No Clowning Around
The theme of this protest seems lightweight to some of us. It’s not.
Indivisible National points out that we do not have a king. We do not give unlimited power to one person to rule over us. And we know, here in Sonoma County, that it’s not only one man in the White House that’s our problem. There’s this whole group of enablers and boot lickers who prop that man up and use him as a tool to get what they really want — a country that runs as a religio-fascistic state; an autocratic state that will control every aspect of our lives and our government; a country of the rich, by the rigid, for the few.
This is not the country previous generations fought to build. This is not the country that listens to the better angels of our nature. And that’s why we roundly reject what they want to impose on us — all those clowns that think they can take over our country.
You don’t have to look too far to see what their purpose is. They turn us against each other.
Their masked thugs invade our neighborhoods and businesses, targeting people with dark skins. They are careless about rights and laws.
When confronted, they lie.
Our power comes from our determination to stand together. To resist. To be strong.
We show our strength every week, and we demonstrate our determination when we come together to protest.
ICE is in our community. But it isn’t only ICE we are fighting. We are fighting for the rights of every person living in our country. We are fighting for our dignity, our health, our children, our planet, and our future.
Each protest you attend is important. The Santa Rosa protest on June 14 will be the most visible protest to date. That’s why we’re on Farmers Lane, one of the busiest streets in Santa Rosa — a Federal highway that runs through our heart.
Bring your solidarity.
Bring your outrage.
Bring your determination.
Bring your flags
We can’t believe June 14 is next Saturday. Whether you stand with the veterans or with the rest of us, bring a flag or two. Draw them on your sign. Wear them in your hair. Celebrate Flag Day.
Whatever flags you want, including Old Glory.

Calls to make this week (links go to our website)
Fight the MAGA Murder Budget
BREAKING: ICE and the FBI are escalating their abductions and violence in California. Americans are fighting back. These events often move faster than our ability to write call scripts for them, but the action needed is always the same: your Democratic members of Congress should be making forceful public statements attacking the fascist takeover of our government in whatever vile form it is taking at the moment – in this case abducting Americans and attacking protestors. They should be calling out the villains by name – Noem, Trump ICE, and so on – and picking a fight. If they’re not doing that, they are failing both you and our country. You have the right to demand that they do better and to replace them if they don’t.
If Trump called himself “our beloved and benevolent leader” would you refer to him that way? I thought not. So I hope you also have refused to refer to his MAGA Murder Budget as “the big, beautiful bill”. Because when you do that, using the words they have carefully chosen to sanitize their crimes, you’re doing the fascists’ work for them. Instead, you should be calling it “the MAGA Murder Budget” so that people know it is designed to let people die so that the billionaires can take more money.
Is this too hyperbolic? Democratic consultants think so, but they’re wrong (again). Calling it the MAGA Murder Budget: 1) is accurate, 2) short & memorable, 3) likely to be repeated, 4) newsworthy, 5) demonstrates fight and 6) forces the opposition into a defensive crouch. Don’t believe me? The accusation forced Iowa MAGA senator Joni Ernst into saying, in response to constituents’ concerns, “We’re all going to die.”
Take up the fight. Talk about the MAGA Murder Budget. And tell your senators to do it, too.
Let’s make some calls.
CALL YOUR SENATORS:
FIGHT THE MAGA MURDER BUDGET
Democratic “no” votes can’t stop the MAGA Murder Budget in the Senate, since it’s a reconciliation bill and can be passed with a majority vote. But Democrats can still fight back, calling out the harm the bill will cause and branding those who vote for it as choosing to murder their own constituents.
Please call your Senators and say:
I know you can’t STOP the MAGA Murder Budget bill. I’m asking you to fight back against it, by raising as much hell around it as you possibly can. The MAGA Murder Budget would turn our government into a weapon against our people, abducting our neighbors, killing off life-saving programs like cancer research and Medicaid, and letting billionaires rob us of everything ‘we the people’ created to care for each other. It will kill people, lots of them. Put up a fight!

CALL YOUR SENATORS:
OPPOSE THE VOTER SUPPRESSION (aka “SAVE”) ACT
The House has passed what Republicans call the “SAVE” Act, legislation that would cause over 21 million Americans to LOSE their vote by imposing voting requirements that they cannot reasonably meet, even though they are fully eligible to vote. The act strips away the right to vote from anyone who can’t produce documents that millions of Americans don’t have, can’t afford, or struggle to access.
Now the bill is in the Senate, where it must be defeated. Senator Padilla has vowed to “lead the charge” to defeat the bill in the Senate and has taken some steps to block it. Democrats can defeat the Voter Suppression Act by staying unified, since the filibuster will require a supermajority of votes for the legislation to pass. It will not be enough for either Padilla or Schiff to merely vote “no”. We also need them to pressure their colleagues to vote no as a unified block. No flinching, no defections.
UPDATE: As of May 9th, only 9 Democratic senators were on record in opposing the “SAVE” Act (one was Padilla, but Schiff’s name is missing). This bill can be killed. It is critical to call now!
Please call your Senators and say:
I’m calling to ask the Senator to lead the charge to defeat S. 128, the so-called “SAVE” Act, by not only voting no himself, but also by pressuring all of his Democratic colleagues to do the same. The caucus must stay unified and defeat S. 128, which is pure MAGA voter suppression.

CALL YOUR US REPRESENTATIVE:
DEMAND DONALD TRUMP’S IMPEACHMENT
A true opposition party would be calling for Trump’s impeachment. Because he is committing impeachable offenses by the dozen. Demand your Congressional representatives act like a true opposition party.
Please call your Representative and say:
I’m calling to ask if the Representative has publicly called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump. If not, what is he waiting for?

CALL YOUR STATE SENATOR:
DON’T BREAK THE SOLAR CONTRACT
Governor Newsom’s CPUC has proposed to break the solar contracts, slash the solar credits, and slap with a solar tax all of the solar customers who signed up for solar before April 2023 (NEM1 and NEM2). Our best chance of stopping this proposal is to make it Dead On Arrival in the State Legislature.
Please call your State Senator and say:
Please vote NO on AB 942 “as amended”. The bill will break the State of California’s contract with solar consumers and harm hard-working Californians who did the right thing by investing in solar panels.

CALL YOUR STATE SENATOR:
DON’T GIVE TRUMP ACCESS TO OUR POWER GRID!
A truly awful bill, killed several years ago, is back. The Pathways bill, SB 540, would forfeit California’s autonomy over our power grid, opening it to control by other states and, most worryingly, Trump’s regime. It must be stopped.
Please call your State Senator and say:
Please oppose SB 540, the Pathways bill. Do not sell us out by handing control of our energy grid over to Trump and his minions. Keep our energy future in our hands. Vote NO on SB 540.
Contacts for CA State Senators
CALL YOUR STATE LEGISLATORS:
SAY NO TO NEWSOM’S ATTACK ON MEDI-CALL
Gov. Newsom’s new budget proposal would block re-enrollment in Medi-Cal for anyone who loses coverage — even temporarily, regardless of citizenship — due to changes in income, paperwork issues, or life circumstances. Coupled with the Republicans’ move to require everyone to re-enroll every 6 months, this will lead to LOTS of Californians losing life-saving coverage and access.
Please call your State Legislators and say:
I am calling to ask the [assemblymember / senator] to oppose Governor Newsom’s budget proposal blocking re-enrollment for anyone who loses coverage. The governor should not be balancing the budget on the backs of the sick. Let him attack someone deserving instead. Like the oil companies.

MEETINGS and EVENTS
Indivisible Sonoma County - Truth in Media - Film Series
Z
Wed, Jun 11, 2025 1:00pm OR 7:00pm
At the Rialto Cinemas
A pulse-pounding political thriller, Greek expatriate director Costa-Gavras’s Z was one of the cinematic sensations of the late sixties, and remains among the most vital dispatches from that hallowed era of filmmaking. This Academy Award winner—loosely based on the 1963 assassination of Greek left-wing activist Gregoris Lambrakis—stars Yves Montand as a prominent politician and doctor whose public murder amid a violent demonstration is covered up by military and government officials; Jean-Louis Trintignant is the tenacious magistrate who’s determined not to let them get away with it. Featuring kinetic, rhythmic editing, Raoul Coutard’s expressive vérité photography, and Mikis Theodorakis’s unforgettable, propulsive score, Z is a technically audacious and emotionally gripping masterpiece.
Panel discussion with Stephen F. Rohde and Dr. Marco Calavita to follow 7pm screening!

VA Clinic Weekly Action
Fri, June 13, 2025 11:00am - 1:00pm | US/Pacific
Veterans Administration Clinic
Join and support the Veterans Administration Clinic weekly action. Meet at 11:00 at 2285 Challenger Way, Santa Rosa.
The VA Clinic doesn’t treat every veteran in the best of times, and these are not the best of times. Clinicians’ jobs have been eliminated. Benefits have been eliminated. President 2.0 would cut the care for veterans even further.
Those out there protesting for better care are grateful and surprised by the support from Indivisible. They thought we forgot that we are all in this together.
Let’s never let a moment pass when we forget that we are stronger together. And that together, we are Indivisible.

Protest Avelo Airlines' Deportation Flights - ONGOING
Sun, Jun 15, 2025 11:00am - 1:00pm | US/Pacific
Avelo Airlines has accepted a $150 million contract to operate deportation flights, aiding in the illegal removal of individuals without their right to a fair hearing or due process. This is not only inhumane but a direct violation of our Constitution.
We’re calling for a full boycott of Avelo Airlines and organizing weekly protests at our local airport.
We will be on the sidewalk leading to the Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport, which is currently a hub for Avelo's flights. At a time when a maximum number of travelers will see our protest, it is also a good opportunity to protest federal layoffs with the FAA.
You can park nearby or take SMART to get there. No parking on private property, please.

Every Wednesday and Thursday in June, join Indivisible for a phonebank where we’ll be calling voters and connecting them directly to their Senator. Together, we’ll urge Republicans to oppose the Trump Tax Scam—a reckless GOP tax plan that prioritizes billionaires like Elon Musk while selling out working families.
Republicans in Congress are trying to ram this through using budget reconciliation, bypassing bipartisan support to give trillions in tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy. Their plan? Slash Medicaid, SNAP, and early education programs—all so billionaires can hoard more wealth while everyday Americans pay more.
We’ll be using Scale to Win, our easy-to-use calling tool, to make sure voters can speak out and be heard.
Let’s stand up for economic justice. Let’s stop this scam in its tracks. RSVP now and make your voice heard!
