April 19.
We are walking on April 19. Bring your bells and whistles, horns and drums.
On April 19, we’re remembering the American Revolution. And we’re going to talk about the vision the Republicans have for our future — the one that leaves us out of the picture.
And before we do that, we have to talk about how we got to where we were, just a few years ago, a few months ago. And why their vision is not our vision. And why we are fighting back.
In 1776, when the American Revolution started … In 1789, when the Constitution was ratified … and every step along the way since, the story of the United States has been a story of who was included — and who was left out.
All the women were left out.
All the poor people were left out.
All the Indigenous people were left out.
All the Black people were left out.
All the laborers were left out.
All the people who didn’t own property were left out.
As each new group of refugees and immigrants arrived in the US, they were almost always left out.
And slowly, painfully, incompletely, we fought for their rights. One step forward, two steps back, three steps to the side, and again. A dance for rights and recognition, for honor and equality.
We thought we didn’t need to fight this battle
Many reading this, many members of Indivisible Sonoma County, remember the 60s and 70s. Civil Rights, Women’s Rights, Voting Rights, Gay Rights — we thought these were done deals. Maybe not completely done, but that the courts had decided, and would always have decided. We thought we could step back and let the younger generation fight their new battles for equality and justice.
We were wrong.
And so we need to march again.
Saturday, April 19 11-1 we are heading to the streets.
But we were just out on April 5! And we’re tired - and tired of being so upset.
So let’s have fun. Firm fun. Loud fun. Fun with a bit of whimsy and music and — dare we say it — patriotism.
Indivisible Sonoma County: Step Up. Stand Up. Show Up.
. . . and say loudly to the powers that be, that we are on the march, pressing forward, with our voices, our music and our demands for justice.
We march to sound the alarm about all that is being taken away from us illegally
Time to step up—with purpose and pride.
Time to stand up—for our rights, our neighbors, and our future.
Time to show up—in full force, with joy, with courage, and with love.
We’re coming together not just to protest what’s wrong, but to celebrate what’s possible. With our voices, our music, our signs, and our spirits—we’re marching forward.
We step up to protect what’s being taken from us: our freedoms, our votes, our planet, and our democracy.
We stand up to those who would silence us, strip away our rights, and divide our communities.
We show up in unity—with friends and strangers, workers and veterans, citizens and immigrants, across every color, culture, and identity in our county.
We are building a new American Revolution—one that lifts everyone. One that puts people before power, justice before greed, and community before corporations.
This revolution is for us. For all of us.
No one left out. No one left behind.
Here’s how to show up:
Bring your signs, your U.S. flags, your cowbells, your drums—and your loudest voice for chants.
Bring your friends, your family, and your neighbors.
We will honor the 250th anniversary of April 19, 1775—when on the Common in Lexington, Massachusetts, the British Army and American militia faced off in the first battle of the Revolutionary War. We will walk from Juliard Park to Old Courthouse Square. We will hear from community members directly impacted by the dangerous decisions coming out of Washington DC and Wall Street. We will stand together, raising our voices for justice, and recommit to the fight for a democracy that serves all of us, not just the powerful few.
We welcome all to join us.
Come together to remind MAGA and Musk that we honor the values fought for that day. The values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We still hold these truths, defined in our Constitution, to be essential to our democratic way of life.
