President Trump just unilaterally committed an act of war. This is a dark day for the Constitution and for peace. There are smarter and better ways to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. While my GOP colleagues are lining up to celebrate this reckless and likely illegal action by Trump, I oppose it. Gleefully surrendering Congress’ Constitutional war power to a cult leader is not patriotic, it’s feckless and pathetic. I fear this brash act of war, which may seem ‘successful’ in the moment, will lead to terrible consequences for our troops, our national security, the Middle East region, and what’s left of our global credibility.
