This is a national day of action. Multiple organizations are declaring that this day must not honor the clowns in DC. Join us as we loudly say there are no kings in our country — and we don’t want their clowns, either!

We have many reasons to protest. We must do so with one voice

It’s a little hard to talk about reasons for this protest. What looked serious 6 weeks ago ($45 millions being spent on a frivolous military march to honor the birthday of a orange fool in the White House) isn’t quite what we care about now, with ICE and the FBI driving unmarked cars, taking people off the streets, pulling them out of cars, demanding their ‘papers’ on suspicion that they might be driving while brown … kidnapping 4 year olds and citizens who just look too dark.

Immigration isn’t the only big issue. The proposed Big Bad Budget that will take funds from education, health, safety net services, fire services, infrastructure, and all the rest to give a tax break for the very wealthy is a terrible move. One we must all fight against.

What this government is doing hurts all of us, but it hurts some of us much sooner, and much more severely, than others. That’s planned. Some of us could keep quiet and let others feel the pain, hoping that we could cope with the changes and not suffer too much.

But we are Indivisible. And we will not be divided.

We are united. And we protest.

This truly is a somber moment in our country. The current president is attempting to corrupt the military, just as he’s attempting to corrupt every other part of our government.

If you want to stand with the veterans, join them (and all the rest of us). West side of Farmers Lane, north of Hoen.

If this is you, and you are looking for a place to park, or a place to protest, we have you covered.

The Church of the Roses will allow anyone with a placard to park in their lot (at Patio and Hahman). This convenient location is just one block east of a shady spot on the east side of Farmers Lane, very close to Carl’s Jr. We’re asking that this area be set aside for those who need shelter from the sun and who use mobility devices.

Carl’s Jr. has agreed to allow protesters to have access to the bathrooms. And if you are thirsty or hungry, well, there they are!

Looking for a different place to attend a protest?

By now, we’ve probably all heard the 3.5% rule — that making a real change to what’s going on in our country will require that 3.5% of all of us are protesting. Some people want bigger and bigger protests — people pouring into the streets, stopping traffic, getting arrested, day after day after day.

I get it. So do you. Maybe that even stirs your blood.

But I’m for more protests. In your neighborhood. With your neighbors. All of them.

All of us, taking responsibility for what is happening.

All of us, saying NO. NOT HERE.

There are more No Kings protests than there were on April 5 - HANDS OFF, which was the largest mass mobilization so far. If you find yourself close to any of these communities — there’s a protest just asking you to join in.

Many people want the biggest mass protest. We want many. Let’s have protests in every community, at every crossroads. Because what’s happening in our country isn’t only affecting cities, and it doesn’t only hurt immigrants. Or the old, or poor. It hurts us all, over and over. One big protest can be stopped; many protests, all over, involving everyone, is a movement.

This is a movement. And we are part of it.

After you show up with your neighbors, remember that our nation recognizes another day of freedom on June 14 — Juneteenth. In Santa Rosa, the Juneteenth celebration will be held at Old Courthouse Square from 10 am to 6 pm. (This is the date that Texas leaders stopped lying to the people they had enslaved, and admitted Texas had lost the Civil War, and they were now free.)

Stand with us as we remind our leaders that the US does not have a king! Bring your brightest signs. Our task is to remind all the people driving by that our government is a farce — and we should take that seriously.

Look for the greeters (wearing tall hats) and the peace keepers (wearing orange) who will help you get where you want to be.
